La Maison du Conte (The House of Storytelling)
Founded in 1993, La Maison du Conte is a reference for storytelling in France. It aims to promote and develop the art of telling stories by supporting and presenting the creation of new work, by providing resources for training and research to both the professional and local communities.
At the heart of artistic project, the “Labs” offer professional storytellers essential space to research collectively and to question their practice.
La Maison du Conte also exists to accompany both young and established artists throughout their creative process, sometimes coproducing and presenting their work in its auditorium or in partner venues across the Paris region.
La Maison du conte proposes a large programme of workshops and training sessions opened to a wide range of audiences.
It also regularly collaborates with local partners to produce artistic projects in the community.
La Maison du Conte is an organization funded by the city of Chevilly-Larue, the counties of Val-de-Marne and Île de France, and the local offices of the Ministry of Culture and Communication.
Created in January 2010, l’APAC, l’Association Professionnelle des Artistes Conteurs (France’s professional association of Artist/Storytellers) has a present roster of more than a hundred
professional tellers, men and women.
It works for a better participation in reflexions about and the way their profession is structured. L’APAC functions nationally and equally welcomes a few French-speaking storytellers who regularly perform in France.
L’APAC is a place of fraternity, sharing and solidarity between storytellers, respecting the artistic particularity of its members.
It is also a recognized intermediary between institutions (the Ministry of Culture) and structures working in the area of storytelling and the performing arts in general.
Through its actions, l’APAC contributes to a better knowledge of the art of the storyteller and its influence as a full-fledged artistic discipline.
